Jack Kavars with trophy

Congrats to Jack Kavars as he is this years LCMS Spelling Bee Champion!  The winning word was conundrum.

Benji Doty is this years 1st runner up.  Brooklyn Damgaard is the 2nd runner up.  Camryn Strahm is the 3rd runner up.

All LCMS students took a qualifying test in their Language Arts class.  They had to get 16 out of 20 words correct to qualify.  LCMS had 110 students qualify.  The student then had to get a permission slip turned in to participate.  The spelling bee had forty two contestants.  There were two rounds of written spelling to thin the field to twenty or less students.  Then the traditional way of the spelling bee, stand and spell verbally, began with eighteen students.

Jack will represent LCMS at the Omaha World Herald Regional Spelling Bee on March 17th.  If he should win, he will compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee.  Good luck Jack!

Mr. Hobbs Special Education class also had their spelling bee.  There were 12 contestants.  Congrats to Noah Moore Mr. Hobbs Spelling Bee Champion!  The students after the bee enjoyed punch and cookies with family members who attended.  Congrats as well to Eli Guevera who received 2nd place and Patsy Lorenzen who received 3rd place.
